Music Magazine - Planning
Music Magazine Planning
- Genre of music magazine - The genre I have chosen is R&B and contemporary R&B, this genre hosts a great number of artist who have contributed largely to the music industry. R&B is one of my favorite genres of music because it has jazz elements in it which makes it very enjoyable. R&B magazines usually have many articles which lead onto fashion, industry, glamor etc which makes this genre very interesting.
- Target Audience - Teenagers aged: 15 to 18, interested in music in general, specific interest in contemporary R&B music, live with parents, associate with friends who may share a common interest in music.
- Name of magazine - The name of my magazine will be 'Retro Beats' - this name is relevant to the genre of this music magazine as the music is usually retro and comprised of several beats, the name is very simple and catchy, it is also sophisticated and suits the genre of music I plan to base my magazine on also, the use of the words 'retro' and 'beats' refers to letters 'R' and 'B' in Rhythm and Blue or R&B
- Masthead - The masthead will display the words 'rETRO bEATS' or 'Retro Beats'.
- Focal Image for front cover - The main image will be a female or male equipped with a microphone, singing. This image displays the basis of music and is a clear description of R&B music being displayed. The image will also display the feature article for my magazine which will be a concert review.
- Photography - Long shot of model which will display the locale and give a detailed view of the model, the photo will be captured from an angle which puts the model in a position where he/she is in action.
- Mise-en-scene - Music classroom, perhaps a studio i.e. drama, dance, wearing any sort of casual and cool clothing which will promote R&B lifestyle, no make-up, dimly lit room, spotlight on model.
- Sell lines - My sell lines would include articles based on the world of R&B, occurrences associated with R&B, progress made within the music industry in general, gigs, tours, events, upcoming dates, these sell lines will appeal to the target audience because they would be likely to look at them and want to see what is going on within the world of R&B and also look at the other things which are happening within the music world. Use of rows to separate sell lines.
- Items and feature articles on contents page - Reviews associated with R&B stars. concerts, tour and event dates and information, upcoming stars, nominees for prestigious awards, brief history of R&B, interviews of stars, special article surrounding the life of a founding father of the genre, popular artists and their upcoming albums and single's etc
- Focus of double page spread - Nominees for prestigious awards which is quite a big topic and is susceptible to large amounts of popularity, interview of popular star and their recent exploits or a review of a concert or event
- Photography for double page spread - A long shot of a group of singers, low angle shot which shows the superiority and power of the singers, the long shot will display some of the locale and all of the models' bodies, they will be looking straight on and singing all in different stages of lyrics.
