Student Magazine Analysis - Front Cover
Genre - School magazine, social aspect of life at college, masthead shows that it is about social life in college.
Connotations - Students perspective, new year which also involves freedom as implied by the banner which states ''WELCOME ISSUE FRESH YEAR NEW BEGINNINGS'', advice and some form of comfort is implied through the sell lines e.g. ''Make the most of it!'' and ''COLLEGE MAP INCLUDED'' which also refers to the fact that the magazine is the first issue of the year meaning that they are starting a new year.
Language - The language is quite simple as it is aimed at college students who may want something casual and nonchalant to read, informative as they want you to know what's going on, the use of quotes is to make you want to read more and show more interest in the magazine because of what a specific person may have said.
Layout style - Sell lines are all situated on the left side of the magazine, the button is supposed to be a highlight which is the reason why the word ''WIN'' is shown in a large and contrasting font and this will undoubtedly attract readers, the banner is also a standout message as the writers wanted to convey the message with some form of exuberance a colour which is in contrast from the rest of the magazine is used which makes it stand out.
Photography - The model is situated in the centre of the magazine which shows her importance, her facial expression is quite relaxed and calm which could signify the general feeling of college students at the beginning of a new year, her clothing matches the main text on the magazine which is the masthead.
Layout conventions - The masthead takes up a large amount of space which is very important as it is meant to be the first thing you read which is why bold and large text is used, no barcode which may imply that this magazine is free, the sell line and headlines are placed on the left which may be due to the use of Gutenberg diagram which is why they are placed in the primary optical areas where you are most likely to start reading from, date, consistent style of font and colour.
Target audience - College students, 16-18 year olds, new students as implied by the addition of the school map just in case you can't find your way around the school.
