Preliminary Task

Student Magazine Planning

  • Target Audience - Sixth formers, age 16-18, mixed gender, people interested in : sports, drama, music, trips, events, important dates including terms, dates specific to the selected campus, contact numbers and email addresses.
  • Name of magazine - The Student Outlook: written by the students for the students, the name shows the purpose of the magazine as well as a basic understanding of what the magazine is based around, basic outlook on monthly occurrences, updates surrounding students, fixtures, rehearsal dates, overview of sixth form, pupil interviews.
  • Front cover model - New Year 12 reps as they signify a start of a new year, as the representatives of the year they will also be involved in the magazine which could relate to the fact that the magazine is written by the students, this could also be an introduction to the reps as some people may not know who they are, the first magazine could include a feature article which is a short interview of the new reps or I could use a senior teacher.
  • What type of shot - Medium close up shot, outside, use of natural light.
  • Mise-en-scene - Wearing school uniform, school building probably TLC, natural light, medium close up which shows the model at good detail and some of the locale.
  • Sell lines - Revision tips: help Year 12 make the transition for secondary school to college, academic information, achievements, changes to school.
  • Feature articles and items on the contents page - New sixth form reps interview, Headteachers address for new school year, individual subject announcements i.e trips, new teachers, recent grades, page numbers, date and issue, achievements - academic and cultural, games section, important dates, school maps, new feature article, senior tutor address, help solving problems, career advice, free stuff, UCAS application advice.
